1.why do you choose this "looking china·anhui" activity?
i wanted to participate in this trip to anhui, china as i liked the sense of adventure and challenge it could present. i liked the idea of deep diving into a different side and area of china from what i’ve previously seen and i also liked the idea of challenging myself to extend my creative thinking skills to create a doc within a timeframe.
2.did you encounter someone or something unforgettable during the shooting?
yes, i found my subjects aunt to be a very interesting person. she’s an ink stone engraver with over 40 years experience and she has a strong character with strong thoughts which i appreciated discovering.
3.did you encounter any difficulties during the shooting process?
not any that were too extreme. the main difficulty would have to be the language barrier but this was a practise increative thinking and learning to be comfortable with letting go of control and to trust my producer, an-nan, in being able to deliver the questionsi had prepped but for her to also be present and ask appropriate in the moment questions too. and i feel we were a good team in doing this together.
4.do you have any expectations for this short film?
i hope that this short film will be both entertaining and engaging and for audiences to comeaway with a better understanding of the shexianinkstoneand the legacy they have from their ancient roots up to the present and into the future.
